Soutien au développement de carrière, recherche et utilité d'informations sur Internet relatives à la carrière et difficultés à prendre des décisions en matière de carrière chez les élèves de 12e année de l'Ontario

La théorie et la recherche empirique en matière d'orientation professionnelle ont reconnu la contribution essentielle du soutien social au développement de la carrière. Cependant, la contribution spécifique du soutien d'autres personnes importantes (enseignants, parents, conseillers) aux difficultés de prise de décision en matière de carrière et le rôle de la recherche d'informations sur Internet sur ce dernier résultat ne sont pas encore étudiés. Pour combler ces lacunes, 1 094 élèves de 12e année de l'Ontario (Canada) ont répondu à l'échelle de soutien social, au questionnaire sur les difficultés de prise de décision en matière de carrière (CDDQ) et à deux questions spécifiques concernant la fréquence d'utilisation d'Internet pour la recherche d'informations relatives à la carrière et la perception de l'utilité des informations recherchées. Les résultats ont confirmé l'association négative entre le soutien global et les difficultés générales de prise de décision. Cependant, contrairement au soutien des enseignants, le soutien des parents et des conseillers a été essentiel pour réduire les difficultés de prise de décision en matière de carrière (CDDQ). Plus important encore, le soutien des conseillers d'orientation professionnelle de l'Ontario s'est orienté vers la fourniture d'informations. De plus, les comportements de recherche sur le Web liés à la carrière ont réduit de manière significative le score d'information non fiable du CDDQ. Les implications de ces résultats sont discutées.
