Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Journal Guidelines: You have reviewed the journal information and author guidelines listed above.
  • Language Preference (French Submissions): If submitting in French, please indicate whether you prefer to communicate exclusively in French or whether English is also an option. Although our editorial team is not officially bilingual, we will do our best to accommodate communication in French.
  • Author Information: The names, affiliations, email addresses, and ORCID (where available) of all authors and co-authors have been provided in the appropriate submission fields or files, as required.
  • Keywords: Your manuscript includes five to seven keywords.
  • Funding and Support: All sources of financial and non-financial support have been disclosed to the editorial board. This information may be provided in the Comments for the Editor field.
  • Generative AI Disclosure: You have included a statement disclosing whether and how generative AI tools were used in the research and preparation of the manuscript. This statement may be provided in the Comments for the Editor field.
  • Copyright and Permissions: You have obtained the necessary permissions for the reuse of all third-party and copyrighted materials. Copies of the permissions must be included with your submission.
  • Originality and Exclusive Submission: You confirm that the manuscript has not been previously published and is not currently under consideration by another journal.

Author Guidelines

Thank you for considering the Canadian Journal of Career Development (CJCD) for your manuscript. Before submitting, we encourage you to review the information below to ensure that your manuscript meets the journal’s requirements and is ready for peer review.

Instructions for Authors

Language

Manuscripts may be submitted in either English or French.


Structure

All manuscripts must follow the APA 7th edition guidelines. Where applicable, manuscripts should include the following elements: title page, abstract, keywords, main text introduction, methods, results, discussion, acknowledgment, references, appendices, tables (each on a separate page), & figures.

All in-text citations and reference lists must conform to APA 7th edition guidelines copying references from other articles or suggestions from websites. Please verify all references rather than copying them directly from other articles or relying on automatically generated citations from websites, as these may contain errors or follow outdated formatting. Ensure that all references include valid DOIs or URLs, where applicable, that link directly to the correct source. Please also check older references, as many have since been assigned DOIs.


Word Limits

Abstracts are limited to 500 words. Paper should be maximum of 10,000 words, including the abstract, tables, references, figure and table captions, footnotes, and endnotes.


Image Descriptions & Accessibility

The CJCD includes alternative text (alt text) for images to improve accessibility for readers who use screen readers. To assist authors in preparing image descriptions, the journal uses the Image Accessibility Generator, developed by Arizona State University, as a tool for generating alt text. Our staff then edit the alt text to ensure that image descriptions accurately convey the relevant information and meaning of each image. 


Style Guidelines

In addition to following APA 7th edition guidelines, please observe the following journal-specific requirements:

  • Spelling: Use Canadian English spelling consistently throughout your manuscript.
    Font: Use Times New Roman (12 pt), Georgia (11 pt), or Arial (11 pt).
  • Images: Upload each image as a separate, high-quality file at a resolution of 300 dpi for colour images or 600 dpi for grayscale images. Images should be submitted in JPEG or PNG format. 
  • File Format: Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word or OpenOffice-compatible format. PDF submissions are not accepted.
  • Anonymization: All files must be anonymized for double-blind peer review. Please see our guide to anonymizing your files for instructions.
