Résumé

Le fossé des compétences se creuse et entraîne une plus grande inégalité sur le lieu de travail d'aujourd'hui. Combler le fossé entre les institutions académiques et les employeurs dans la 4ème révolution industrielle est d'une importance critique pour le succès de notre marché actuel.

En combinant et en analysant à la fois les données qualitatives recueillies auprès de groupes de discussion clés et une analyse documentaire, il est évident que l'engagement en faveur de l'apprentissage autonome exige que les étudiants et le corps enseignant comprennent la valeur de l'apprentissage autonome et assument une responsabilité accrue dans la prise de décision. Les institutions académiques doivent aborder les compétences requises pour devenir des apprenants autodirigés et doivent présenter aux étudiants l'environnement qui leur permet d'être plus autodirigés. De leur côté, les employeurs doivent fournir aux établissements les compétences qu'ils exigent à l'embauche.
