Résumé

La prise de décision en matière de carrière est restée un défi constant pour les étudiants en raison de l'absence de politique appropriée visant à aider les étudiants à prendre des décisions éclairées en matière de carrière. Cet article examine si l'auto-efficacité générale des étudiants de premier cycle peut prédire leur prise de décision en matière d'orientation professionnelle par le biais de l'auto-efficacité en matière de décision d'orientation professionnelle. Nous avons recueilli des données auprès d'un échantillon pratique de 453 étudiants de premier cycle d'une université publique ghanéenne dans le cadre d'une enquête transversale. L'échantillon comprenait 261 (57,6 %) hommes et 192 (42,4 %) femmes, âgés de 18 à 33 ans, avec une moyenne de 21,32 ans (écart-type = 2,25). Les données ont été analysées à l'aide de Hayes PROCESS pour la médiation (modèle 4). L'auto-efficacité générale a permis de prédire de manière significative l'auto-efficacité de la décision de carrière et la prise de décision de carrière. En outre, l'auto-efficacité en matière de décision de carrière était un meilleur prédicteur de la prise de décision de carrière des étudiants que l'auto-efficacité générale. En outre, l'auto-efficacité en matière de décision de carrière a joué un rôle médiateur significatif dans la relation entre l'auto-efficacité générale et la prise de décision de carrière. Nous avons conclu que même si l'auto-efficacité générale et l'auto-efficacité en matière de décision de carrière sont des prédicteurs pertinents de la prise de décision de carrière, l'auto-efficacité spécifique au contexte est plus pertinente que l'auto-efficacité générale. Les implications des résultats pour les interventions et les politiques ont été discutées dans le cadre des théories sociales cognitives de la carrière et de l'autodétermination.
